U2-03: Keyboard, Mouse, Joystick
-------------------------------
1149 Keyboard Macros, Shorthand Small Programs Disk
-------------------------------
1Finger 1.0
Sawada, Dr. Masaaki
$5-$10
allows one-finger operation of the Ctrl-Alt-Shift keys as well as the swapping
of those keys and adding a beep for each. TSR: 2k.
Ctsynd 1.0
Sawada, Dr. Masaaki
$10-$20)
is a keyboard macro program that allows words, letters, commands, etc, to be
assigned to any two keys or two-key combinations, such as <Alt-N>+<Ctrl-F> or
<F1>+<Q>.
DDKey 2.01
Dibble, David M. ASP
$18
is an excellent keyboard macro utility that can use as little as 7k. You
can either manually type in a macro or let it record keystrokes as you
type them in your application. It lets you pop up a screen which lists
the macros and offers a menu of functions from which you can choose,
including editing existing and newly-created macros, an alarm function,
an ASCII table display, and the ability to dump the current text screen
to a file.
DDKEY Macro Compiler (DMC)
Cowell, Richard
$0
converts DDKey macro files into text files and converts formatted text
files into DDKey macro files. This makes it possible to edit macros with
any text editor. Asm source included.
DKEY
is small keyboard macro program. It's not as fancy as Superkey, but it
only takes about 1/20th the memory. The authors are no longer at the address
provided in the documentation.
Grafx
Ford, Nelson ASP
$?
contains two graphics programs for drawing boxes. GRAFX.KEY is to be used with
Newkey and GRAFX.MAC is to be used with Superkey.
Key-Filt 1.0
Drayson, Geoff
$0
is a simple resident program that disables certain Keyboard input: Ctrl-C,
Ctrl-Break, Ctrl-Alt-Del, PrtSc, Ctrl-Alt-Grey-Plus and Ctrl-Alt-Grey-Minus.
Assembler source code is included.
Letter Code Size Increaser (LCSI)
LCS
$10-$15
increases the number of key combinations available to other resident programs by
31 to 62 keys on the standard 83 key keyboard. The extra keys are generated by
pressing down on both the Ctrl key and the left or the right shift keys along
with another key.
Playback 2.3 (PLAYBAC) 09-93 CD
RSE Inc. ASP
$35
captures your keystrokes, including the delay between keystrokes, and
lets you play them back in a variety of ways. This could be used for
self-running demos of programs, for unattended operation of the computer
or simply as a super-macro program. You can also initiate a playback by
pressing a specified "hot key".
Network support is provided, and instructions are included for operation
within the Windows environment. Keystroke files can also be edited, and
you can start and stop a recording from within a batch file.
ScroLck 1.0
Sawada, Dr. Masaaki
$10-$20
lets you redefine the keyboard and toggle the new values on and off by pressing
the Scroll-Lock key. This program ingeniously takes advantage of the fact that
the status of Scroll-Lock is ignored by most other programs. You can press
Scroll-Lock and have the regular keys start putting out Greek or other special
characters. You can even redefine them to take the place of function keys that
are hard to remember or to pop up TSR's.
Short Hand Expander 1.0 (SHRTHND)
TABS Software
$25
is a 17k TSR that saves keystrokes by expanding predefined abbreviations into
longer words or phrases as you type. New abbreviations may be added as you go.
Smacs
you redefine your keyboard, save the current screen to an ASCII file, print
concurrently in DOS 3.0 or greater, and load and save files of keyboard macros
from within other applications.

--------------------------
12091 Redefine Keys in DOS Small Programs Disk
--------------------------
The advantage (or disadvantage, depending on your point of view) of these
utilities is that they normally don't affect the keyboard in other programs.
Ansi&2K
Ketcham, Bob
$?
improves on ANSI.SYS by providing a larger keyboard reassignment buffer.
Ansikey 2.1
Williams, Dave ASP
$0
is a file to be used with ANSI.SYS to redefine the keyboard. Also included are a
documentation file that explains all about ANSI.SYS and an improvement on
ANSI.SYS by the name of ZANSI.SYS.
AppMap 1.1
Vitt, Mark
$0
allows you to define which keys perform a specific function so that the same
key combination will perform the same operation in different programs.
DOS Command Synonym Translator 1.0 (SYNONYM)
CodeCrafters
$10
is a (1.5k+) TSR which translates abbreviated commands on the DOS command line
into the fully spelled out commands. For example, DA could be used to generate
DIR A:/W. It also provides a facility for chaining several DOS commands on a
single command line using a user definable separator character. The program
tested fine under DV with PCED and other TSR's loaded.
DynakeyS (DS-MS)
Sawada, Dr. Masaaki
$10-$20
lets you pop up a menu to redefine a key for another key. The menu also allows
you to send up to 20 characters of codes to one of your serial ports. (res:1k)
FK20
allows you to assign strings up to 24 characters in length to each of the
function keys, so you can give an entire command or file name with a single
keypress.
Func21
Weisz, Jim
$?
enables the use of eighteen of the function keys that PC-DOS doesn't use. The
important difference between this and other keyboard definers (such as
ANSI.SYS), is that this one only intercepts function keys during 'command line
input' (DOS function 0xA). The result is that editors and other programs
which look for function keys as single keystrokes don't get the new definition
instead.
Hitter
Farmer, B. A.
$?
performs several functions: redefines function keys 1-10 for most commonly
used DOS commands, toggles between monochrome and colour monitor by using
control + right/left shift key, modifies the disk base parameters to speed up
diskette, stays resident in memory and intercepts the keyboard interrupt.
PRMPT
Seidl, Gerald
$?
is a batch file that will redefine the function keys for DOS and display
their new functions in a highlighted bar at the top of the screen while in DOS.
Since the chances are that you will not want the same commands that this file
sets up, the real value of PRMPT.BAT is that you can easily modify the file to
your own needs. (If you use a word processor, remember to save the file in ASCII
format.)
Prompt2
tells how to redefine keys with the PROMPT command.
Redefine 2.14 (REDEF)
Swift-Ware
$10
is a 65K TSR that allows you to assign a string of up to 60 characters to a
single combination of the ALT/function keys and a number key. These can be
used to store long path names, often repeated commands, etc. Definitions can
be saved and reloaded, or easily created on the fly. Other options include a
file viewer, pop-up calendar, notepad, disk formatter, and more.
Re-Definest (REDEFIN)
Ryan, Eric
$?
will allow you to redefine up to 37 different keys to represent another string
of characters. You must have ANSI or NANSI.SYS in your CONFIG.SYS file (see
your DOS manual). If you don't already use a keyboard macro program such as
SuperKey, you will find this utility saves you a lot of keystrokes while in DOS
by letting you assign common DOS commands to different keys. Because it is easy
to use, you can quickly assign keystrokes to keys "on the fly".
TigerKey (TIGERKE)
Hungry Tiger Software
$0
makes it easy to assign DOS commands to your function keys via ANSI.SYS.

-----------------------------
2458 Special Key Redefinition Small Programs Disk
-----------------------------
CapsRls 1.4
makes your computer's Caps Lock key behave like a typewriter's. Pressing
either shift key automatically releases the Caps Lock. This prevents
annoyances like: eVERY gOOD bOY dESERVES fAVOR. As a secondary function,
CAPSRLSE optionally presets all the keyboard toggle keys to your preferences
when you install it. res:1k
CtrlCaps 1.1 (CTRLCAP)
Meyer, Eric
$0
is a small TSR that makes the CapsLock key function as the Ctrl key. Unlike
similar utilities that swap the state of the two keys, CtrlCaps only makes the
CapsLock key act as a Ctrl key when it is held down while typing another key;
when pressed by itself and released, it still works like a CapsLock key.
Cursor Off Scroll LOcK (COSLOK)
Charles Lazo III
$0
lets the ScrollLock key serve to freeze the computer and make the cursor
disappear. Any keys pressed after pressing ScrollLock are stored in the key
buffer until ScrollLock is pressed again. Assembly language source code is
included. res:1k
Dvora
Sawada, Dr. M.
$5
is a 2K TSR that turns your QWERTY keyboard to one of four alternative
keyboard layouts which are intended to make typing easier and faster. One of
the layouts is optimized for those who want to or must type with their left
hand only; another is a layout for the right hand. Despite the name, neither
of two-handed arrangements appear to be a DVORAK layout.
DvorakKB (DVORAK)
FAB Software
$20
is a 1.5k TSR utility which will reconfigure your keyboard from the QWERTY to
the DVORAK layout. Unlike the standard QWERTY layout, the Dvorak layout has been
designed to maximize typing speed by rearranging the most frequently typed
letters onto the most easily reached positions.
F11F12
Rabinowitz, Chip
$?
lets you redefine the F11 and F12 keys on the IBM Enhanced Keyboard.
Fix101KY 1.0 (FIX101K)
Hanlin, Thomas G. III
$0
makes the 101-key enhanced keyboard more like other pc keyboards by changing
several keys (shown in square brackets []): [~`] to [Esc]; [Esc] to [~`];
[CapsLock] to [Ctrl]; [Ctrl] to [Alt]; and [Alt] to [CapsLock]. TSR:1k
KBDR
is a TSR driver that provides support for function keys 11 and 12 for those
whose computers do not automatically support the 101-key keyboards. A C test
program and source code are included.
KBMap
swaps the functions of the Ctrl and CapsLock keys on a 286 machine. The
accompanying assembler source code could be modified to remap any and all keys
on the keyboard.
KeyLock
is a program to try to help physically handicapped persons to use a PC. For
someone who can only hit one key at a time, key sequences like control-C or
alt-F1 or ctrl-alt-delete become impossible. This program changes the ctrl,
alt, and the left shift keys into locking keys, much like the num lock or caps
lock keys.
KeyFix101 1.22 (KFIX101)
SofTek Industries
$10
lets you swap the functions of the Ctrl and CapsLock keys on the new 101-key
keyboards. It also lets you control cursor size, lock the keyboard when you
are away, and adjust the keyboard typeamatic rate.
NewEnter (NEWENTE)
is a handy utility if you like to use the number pad to enter numbers.
Newenter loads into memory and turns the grey plus key into another Enter key.
NewkBios (NEWKBIO)
Gilliland, Jim
$0
allows old programs to recognize all the function keys (ie: F11 and F12) on new
keyboards.
PrtSc
Donnelly, Tom
$0
allows the print-screen key to be disabled or enabled.
S-Lock
activates the Scroll-Lock key to serve as a Pause key.
Tild-ESC (TILD-ES)
Geyer, Mike
$0
swaps the role of the [Escape] and [Tilde] keys. For use with keyboards that
have these keys awkwardly located. Assembler source code included. res:1k
2458 Key Disabling
------------------
Inson
lets you disable the CapsLock and Insert keys so that you do not
accidentally toggle them on or off. You can re-enable the keys by pressing
Alt-LeftShift at the same time. WARNING: INSON may conflict with other TSR's.
In particular, after loading it into memory, we were unable to pop up My-Desk
again until we turned the computer off and back on. (A warm boot didn't help.)
res:1k
Leave
Angel, Dave
$?
was written to temporarily disable the CapsLock and NumLock keys for a
blind and deaf person who has no other way to be sure of not accidentally
activating these keys. (Also see Lockbeep on disk #2995, which makes a
different sound when each of the -Lock keys are turned on or off
LockKey
Ford, Nelson ASP
$0
lets you enter a password, blank the screen and lock the keyboard when you are
going to be away from the computer for a while, such as at lunch. To regain
control, press a key and enter the password.
NoPrtSc
disables the right-shift-key-PrtSc combination to keep you from hanging
your computer by accidentally pressing those keys when no printer is
available.
NoReset
Rhea, Tony A.
$?
disables the <Ctrl><Alt><Del> keyboard reset sequence. Once this program is
installed, the only way to reboot the system is to turn the power off and then
back on.
--------------------------------
END OF SMALL PROGRAMS DISK #2458
--------------------------------
Newkey
FAB Software ASP
$43
#0290
is a resident keyboard macro program. It was PC Magazine's "Editor's Choice"
in a comparative review. Newkey lets you assign a series of keystrokes to
almost any key or combination of keys, thus allowing you to execute the
keystrokes (or commands) by simply pressing a key.
Features include variable length pauses, fixed length pauses, nested macros,
the ability to temporarily disable a key's redefinition so that its original
meaning can be entered, full-featured macro editor, a shorthand mode (eg:
typing "vty" could be automatically translated to insert "very truly yours" in
its place), keyboard speedup, the ability to pop up even if in graphics,
screen on/off macro function, screen blanker that works with EGA/VGA, macro
can call itself, define a macro within a macro, multi-character macro names,
128-keystroke typeahead buffer, cut and paste, EMS memory usage, and more.
Several macro functions are provided that make it possible to test the screen,
and a macro that will invoke the print-screen function is included.
------------------------------
0278 Keyboard Utilities, Other Small Programs Disk
------------------------------
0278 Printing Custom Key Templates
----------------------------------
Fntempl
Robinson, Wayne E.
$?
is a program for creating function key templates for the 101-key keyboard. Lets
you save, edit templates. Allows four ten-character lines per function key.
Requires Epson-compatible printer.
FKeylbl
prints custom function key templates.
FKeyTem
Ford, Nelson ASP
$0
is a text file that contains two template forms for the function keys across the
top of an enhanced (101-key) keyboard.
Fk-notes
is a form to use to keep track of function key assignments. To print it,
you need an Epson compatible printer and the utility TINY on the Epson Printer
Set-Up disk.
0278 Key Speedup
----------------
Hurry Key 1.5 (HK)
Zuckerman, John B.
$25
is a 54k TSR that lets you speed up keyboard repeat action while preventing
cursor run-on. If 54k of RAM is too much, some of the other utilities in this
seciton have fewer features but take less RAM. For example, TCURS only takes
5k, but we had some problems with it when rebooting a machine and it doesn't
allow independent speedup of each key.
HotKey
Speeds up your keyboard's typeamatic response, but puts the breaks on when
you remove your finger so that you don't overshoot, unlike some other keyboard
speedup utilities.
Keyspeed (KEYSPEE)
Housh, Rick
$0
is a keyboard speedup utility for AT and PS/2 compatible computers. It is not a
TSR and takes no memory after running it. The keyboard can be reset from DOS at
any time. Assembler source code is included.
Quick Key Repeat 1.2 (QKRP)
Meyer, Eric
$0
is a keyboard speedup utility. Versions are included for standard and enhanced
keyboards.
SpeedKey (SPEEDKE)
Zuckerman, John B.
$?
allows you to speed up your keyboard.
TCURS
Prototype Systems Ltd.
$?
TurboCursor allows you to zip the cursor around but stop as soon as you lift
your finger from the cursor keys. Speed and delay time are adjustable. Unlike
utilities that speed up the typeamatic rate on all the keys - even dangerous
ones like DEL - Tcurs just affects the cursor keys. It can be disabled at any
time by pressing Ctrl-5. Actually, it is also disabled when NumLock is on since
using the Shift key to get cursor movement with NumLock on does not result in a
speedup. More good news: it only takes 5.5k of RAM. An alarm clock is thrown
in for good measure. In testing, we had problems unless TCURS was loaded before
other resident utilities. Also, if you do a warm boot (Ctrl-Alt-Del), TCURS
will not reload because it thinks it is already loaded, but it will not work
again until you do a cold boot (as in: Big Orange Switch).
WarpSped 1.0 (WARPSPE)
FAB Software
$20
is a keyboard utility which will dramatically speed up the repetition rate of
your keyboard, and it does it without overrun. Overrun occurs when you release
the key you have been holding down and yet the key continues to repeat. In
addition, the program does it using less than 1K of memory. (res: 1k)
#0278 Miscellaneous
-------------------
Abbreviator 4.0 (ABBREV)
HiPerSoft Systems
$38
is a TSR that expands user-defined abbreviations into character strings of up to
1760 characters. For example, in your word processor, you could type "myname"
and have it insert your name and address. It can also be used in DOS to execute
multiple commands from a single word input.
AutoMate 1.1 (AUTOMAT)
Friesen, Geoff
$0
creates .COM files that can load specified programs and execute specified
keystrokes. It is intended primarily for automating the execution of various
program tasks. For example, you could create a COM file that would run PC-Write
(or WordPerfect, or whatever), load a file, print it, and exit the program.
CAF 1.1
Hanson, Scott
$0
allows switching between the foreign and domestic keyboards loaded with KeyB
in DOS 3.3+.
FileC 1.06 (FILEC) (11-93 CD)
Morearty, Mike
$0
is a 2.5k TSR which allows you to type only the first few characters of
long file names in DOS and then it fills in the rest.
KeyStuff 1.0 (KEYSTFF)
RSE, Inc.
$20
reads keystrokes stored in a file and stuffs them into the keyboard,
resulting in a program that can automate a task and execute it unattended.
Special characters can be inserted into the file so that KeyStuff will wait
a specified period of time before continuing. Data files may include
function keys, cursor keys, backspace key, etc. You can tell KeyStuff to
initiate the stuffing immediately, when a hot key is pressed, or even
unattended at some later time.

2995 Keyboard Utilities #2 Small Programs Disk
--------------------------
2995 Key Status Indicators
--------------------------
Caps
Flarity, Carl
$5
is RAM-resident and shows you the state of keyboard caps by changing the size of
the cursor. Even if your keyboard has a "caps lock" light, you may find this
useful because you don't have to take your eyes off the screen as you type.
(res:1k)
Keystat
displays status of CapsLock and NumLock keys.
Lockbeep (LOCKBEE)
sound a different, distinctive tone for each of the -Lock keys when
pressed.
Locksoff (LOCKSOF)
provides an easy way to turn off all of your -Lock lights (and functions)
at once.
2995 Multi-Feature Utilities
----------------------------
Fastbuff 2.0 (FASTBUF)
Steiner, David
$?
is a do-it-all keyboard enhancer. Features include variable size keyboard
buffer, increased key repeat rate, anti-skid braking, screen blanking, repeat
characters entered through the alt-keypad, and the ability to enter graphics
characters with the alt-keypad for clones that don't handle that function well.
KBFix30
Gilbrech, Skip
$?
Among the features are keyboard/cursor speedup, an on-screen display of the
status of the -Lock keys, an enlarged typeahead buffer, a ScollLock key
activator, and much more.
Sumacs
is a Sidekick-like program with resident calculator, notepad, etc.
keyboard macro program
SwapCaps and Swapnum (SWAP)
change the status of your -Lock keys. The author claims that they will
change the state of the keys without changing the LED on some keyboards, so
that if the two get out of sync, you can get them back together with the SWAP
utilities. However, on our AST, the programs DID change the LED along with the
state of the keys, but this might work on other types of machines.
2995 Other
----------
Buffer Stuffers (BUFSTUF)
Keuter, Al
$15
is an expanded keyboard type-ahead buffer and a buffer-stuffer. The buffer takes
less than 1k and the stuffer, less than 5k. A large buffer lets you type-ahead
more while waiting for the computer to complete a task. The stuffer lets you
pass keystrokes to other programs.

$0
will display keystroke information such as scan code ASCII and shift state.
Euro KeyBoard 1.02 (EKB)
Meyer, Eric
$0
lets you enter special characters needed for most European languages with
just a couple of keystrokes. Unlike using Alt and the numberpad, EKB is
very intuitive and easy to use.
EXC 2.6 09-93 CD
Crider, Gary C.
$20
is a simple but powerful script processor for automating DOS applications. It
is not a TSR, so it doesn't use up memory after the application is done.
(Not on this disk. Ask for disk #18141.)
HELPSpc 1.00
Sanche, Neal A.
$5-$15
lets you easily insert special ASCII characters into documents in your word
processor. This 6k TSR pops up an attractive menu bar with pull-down selection
menus for various types of special characters. The groups are Alpha, Bullets,
Currency symbols, Greek letters, Math symbols and non-English Punctuation.
Alpha has sub-menus show each variant of various English letters. For example,
if you select "A", you get a selection of 10 accented or otherwise varied
ASCII characters built around the letter "A" or "a". Pressing Enter at any
time inserts the highlighted character into your editor.
KbdLock 2.2
Comstock, Seth W.
$10
is a tiny (544 byte) TSR that can lock the keyboard and disable the mouse
when using DOS programs. This is is useful when running demos or other
programs that you don't want interrupted. All keys except the hotkey
combination are locked out, including Ctrl+Alt+Delete, Ctrl+C, Ctrl+Break
and PrintScreen.
Keyboard (KEYBOAR)
displays the scan codes for enhanced keyboards as you press the keys.
KBTest
simply tells you if your computer's BIOS will support the extended keys on
the new keyboards.
Maxkey
EZ Software, Inc.
$0
is a keyboard type-ahead buffer extender. It is simple, small (1.3k), and
freeware. (Source code is available for $20.)
ResetKBD (RESETKB)
is a little program used with Assembler that will allow you to reset the
Numlock, Scroll Lock and Capslock that some programs leave set.
Russian Word Processor (RUSS)
Tavolga, Bill
$15
transforms your keyboard into a Cyrillic alphabet typewriter as used by the
Russian language, and serves as a basic word processor.
Scancode (SCANCOD)
Fallen, David L.
$0
is useful for determining the scan and ASCII values for any key or combination
of keys. The program displays the values returned by the interrupt 16H (with
AH=0). These values are useful when patching programs which require "Hot Keys",
thus allowing you to avoid conflicts of Hot Keys among several memory resident
programs.
Shft2Lok (SHFT2LO)
lets you turn CapsLock on and off using the Shift keys.
Teclado
Groover, Henry A.
$15
is a resident keyboard interpreter meant to replace any of IBM's national
keyboard programs. It was originally written to replace KEYBSP, hence the name
TECLADO. TINSTALL, the installation program for TECLADO.COM, allows
redefinition of the entire keyboard in two alternate layouts.
The Controller 1.21 (THECONT)
AACRO Computer Systems
$79
is a script-driven TSR (32K) which can be used to run any DOS based program. It
uses a simple language which easily interfaces with both DOS and DOS programs.
It can read the screen for prompts to start or stop a process, can stop or start
at prescribed times, can upload text into data fields of programs, and much
more. The size of the source script is limited only by disk size.
XKEY
Richwell, Gunner
$10
is a resident program that can be used with your editor to write extended ASCII
characters by scrolling through a pop-up list of them and selecting the one you
want by pressing Enter. Another TSR (`BOX') by the same author locked up our
machines, so we were a little nervous about this one, but it seems to work fine.
(res:1k)
Yes/No PrtScr 1.1 (YNPRTSC)
Segue Corporation
$0
is a TSR that confirms before printing when you press PrtSc. This keeps you from
accidentally printing screens or even locking up your machine if you don't have
a printer on.

program automatically senses attached sticks and configures itself
appropriately.
JRES
lets you use a joystick in place of cursor keys.
Keyboard Mouse (KBM)
When you write arcade-style games or screen graphics software, you must
always supply a keyboard interface for those users who don't own a joystick or
a mouse. However, the keyboard's typematic response time is poor, so the
pointer motion is slow (one column or line per repeat) or jumpy (several
increments per repeat). This utility solves that problem.
K4menu
Davis, Lori J.
$0
is a Microsoft Mouse driver for KEdit 4.0.
Left-Handed Mouse (LFTMOUS)
Palmer, John Andrew
